Figuring one interstellar conflict deserves another, Warthog announced today that it is making a sequel to the 2001 sci-fi real-time strategy game Conquest: Frontier Wars. No release date has been set for Conquest 2: The Vyrium Uprising, which is currently without a publisher.
Set 40 years after Frontier Wars, The Vyrium Uprising will let players take control of one of four races: the human Terrans, the energy-based Celareons, the insectlike Mantis, and a new reptilian species, the Vyrium. Like in the first Conquest, gameplay will center on building a massive Starfleet, conquering and maintaining resources, and expanding one's interplanetary empire. The Vyrium Uprising will sport polygonal 3D environments with particle effects, allowing for more realistic-looking ship-to-ship combat.
Conquest 2: The Vyrium Uprising will revolve around the Vyrium's plot to dominate our quadrant of the galaxy. However, the tale of Conquest: Frontier Wars' road to release was also filled with intrigue. The game began life at Digital Anvil, but was sold off when Microsoft, its initial publisher, bought the studio and decided to pass on the project. Ubisoft published Conquest: Frontier Wars.
