Since the game has several available classes/archetypes, dozens of skills, and hundreds of talents to choose from, it's a given that you'll have to make a few changes down the line. Our guide discusses how to reset your talents and respec in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader. Likewise, please be reminded that this article contains minor spoilers.

How to respec and reset skills in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader

You can respec in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader by talking to High Factotum Janris Danrok, an NPC aboard your voidship. You should gain access to the vessel as early as Act 1. Danrok himself is found right near the main terminal that opens the Koronus Expanse map. Simply select "My retinue and I are in need of training" to open a new panel. Note that Danrok himself has another option that lets you recruit custom companions (i.e. hirelings or mercenaries).

Also, bear in mind that choosing to respec a character costs Profit Factor; the cost increases the more you do so. Profit Factor is the currency used when trading for goods. You can learn more about this mechanic in our trading and faction reputation guide.

  Minor spoilers below:

There's a certain chapter in the game where you won't have access to your voidship. This happens during Act 3, which means you also won't be able to respec for the entirety of that portion.

Janris Danrok allows you to respec characters in the game.

What can you respec or reset in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader

In terms of the Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader respec method, you're only allowed to reset the talents, skills, and abilities that you chose for your character while leveling them. You may not change your character's or any companion's homeworld, origin, or starting archetype/class. However, you can select a different advanced class once you've gotten past level 16.

For instance, our Abelard is a Warrior-Vanguard hybrid. If we choose to reset him, he'll remain a Warrior (basic class). We can then choose different skills, stat boosts, and abilities. As for his advanced class, we can choose from those available to the Warrior, such as the Arch-Militant or Assassin, or the Vanguard once more.

Left: Your voidship appears as an option if you try to respec, though we've been told that this will be fixed in time for the release. Right: You can't change a character's starting class, origin, or homeworld, but you can fine-tune the rest of their build.

A note about potential bugs

Be forewarned that we've experienced a few critical bugs when we attempted to respec certain companions, like Yrliet, Marazhai, and Ulfar. There are certain skills and talents that appear as already obtained, even though they aren't. We were also locked out of selecting certain attributes or even completing the entire process, as their default stats seem to be already set. We can't confirm if these issues will get fixed in time for the launch, so we advise you to keep backup saves handy just in case.

As an aside, we encourage you to check our companion recruitment guide and companion tier list. These are to help you ascertain which party members are worth bringing along for most of your adventures. We also have a companion romance guide if you want to see whether or not love can bloom in a grimdark universe.

There are certainly more discoveries to be made as you continue your journey in the Koronus Expanse, so don't forget to visit our Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader guides hub.
