Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Delayed to Second Half of 2024-October 2024

Around an hour ago, Focus Home Entertainment provided an update on the target release window of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. The third-person shooter game in development at Saber Interactive was supposed to launch this Winter, but fans had already smelled the incoming delay.

Indeed, Space Marine 2 has now been postponed to the second half of 2024. Focus Home Entertainment said this extra development time would allow the developer to properly polish the game, with the goal of delivering a high-quality release. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has already been wishlisted by over a million fans, according to the publisher.

The final release date will be unveiled in 'early December', said Focus Home. An announcement trailer appearing during The Game Awards (set to air on December 7) is practically guaranteed; after all, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 received its debut gameplay trailer at last year's ceremony.

The game follows the events shown in the first installment, where protagonist Titus, a Captain Firstborn Marine of the Ultramarines Chapter, successfully prevented a Chaos uprising on Graia. However, Imperial Inquisitors investigated Titus on charges of heresy. He was eventually cleared but still received a demotion to Lieutenant.

Meanwhile, Titus has chosen to undergo the dangerous transformation into a Primaris Space Marine. Now faster, stronger, and taller, he's sent to fight off a sudden Tyranid invasion from Hive Fleet Leviathan on the Imperial worlds of Kadaku and Avarax. Titus's squad also includes Brother-Sergeant Gadriel and Brother Chairon. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 supports co-op, so the two squadmates can be controlled by the AI or by allied players.

The game will be powered by the so-called Swarm Engine already seen in World War Z, allowing myriads of Tyranids to be displayed on screen. Focus Home Interactive will release the game for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X consoles.

Today, the French publisher also revealed that it will renew its long-standing partnership with Studio Asobo for a major new project. It is unclear whether this is the follow-up to A Plague Tale: Requiem, but it appears likely as the game has 'reached three million players', said Focus Home.

Last but not least, the publisher revealed a new partnership with Afterburner Studios, the independent team behind Dreamscaper, for the creation of a co-owned new intellectual property.
