Warcraft III slips from the top spot
Warcraft III slips from the top spot-October 2024
Oct 18, 2024 2:21 PM

Blizzard's Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos has finally been forced to give up its residency at the top of the NPD sales chart this week, thanks to a strong week of sales for the ever-present The Sims: Vacation expansion pack. Mafia is the only new entry this week, coming straight in at number six, while the aging RollerCoaster Tycoon has managed to reenter at number eight. The two games to leave the top 10 altogether this week were The Sims: Hot Date and Neverwinter Nights--although we wouldn't be surprised to see either of them reemerge in the future.

Best-selling PC games for the week of September 1-7, 2002:

Rank / Title / Publisher / Average Price

  1 / The Sims: Vacation / Electronic Arts / $25

  2 / Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos / Vivendi Universal / $55

  3 / The Sims / Electronic Arts / $43

  4 / Icewind Dale II / Vivendi Universal / $41

  5 / Backyard Baseball 2003 / Infogrames / $18

  6 / Mafia / Gathering of Developers / $49

  7 / Medieval: Total War / Activision / $36

  8 / RollerCoaster Tycoon / Infogrames / $17

  9 / Madden NFL 2003 / Electronic Arts / $36

  10 / Medal of Honor: Allied Assault / Electronic Arts / $46
