WandaVision Gets Disney+ Release Date, Making 2020 A Marvel-Free Year-October 2024
Oct 17, 2024 10:21 PM

The COVID pandemic of 2020 has halted productions and release dates time and time again. And while there was a glimmer of hope Marvel would be releasing something new from the MCU by December, the studios' last bastion of hope--WandaVision--won't be arriving until January 15.

In a tweet, Disney+ announced the mid-January release date, accompanied by a video showcasing the multiple eras this show--which seems an awful lot like a sitcom--will take place in. Check it out for yourself below.

This is the first year since 2009 that the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn't produced a new movie or TV show. In September, Disney posted a video for the upcoming original series, and WandaVision was one of them--stating the series would be out before the end of the year.

Later that month, the first trailer for WandaVision was released, and it was as odd and bizarre as fans could have hoped for. The series sees Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany reprising their MCU roles of Wanda Maximoff and Vision respectively. The two are living "idealized suburban lives," but of course, not everything is as it seems.

There are no clues as to how this fits into the MCU timeline--as Vision was killed during Infinity War. But hey, maybe Shuri duplicated Vision's consciousness just in time and put it into a new body, or maybe Wanda's magical abilities have something to do with it. We sadly won't learn more until 2021 though.

To hold you over until January, Disney has released some new images from the upcoming show, which you can check out for yourself below.

As for other MCU movies, the next film to be released will be Black Widow. Originally, it was supposed to release this past spring, but it has now been pushed to May 7, 2021. Additionally, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has been moved to July 9, 2021, and Eternals to November 5, 2021. At least 2021 is looking jam-packed for movies--if theaters ever reopen.
