Virtua Tennis 4 holds court on Wii, Xbox 360
Virtua Tennis 4 holds court on Wii, Xbox 360-October 2024
Oct 21, 2024 5:02 PM

Last August, Sega announced Virtua Tennis 4 for the PlayStation 3, emphasizing the game's compatibility with the motion-sensing Move controller but neglecting to mention if it would come out for any other platforms. Sega put an end to months of uncertainty today, announcing that Virtua Tennis 4 will also be arriving for the Xbox 360 and Wii this spring.

At ease, ball boy. The tournament's over. Like the PS3 version of the game, the Xbox 360 and Wii editions of Virtua Tennis 4 will take advantage of their system's motion-sensing interfaces. For Microsoft's system, Sega said the game will "take full advantage of Kinect." Wii Motion Plus support was already introduced to the series in Virtua Tennis 2009.

Beyond revamped controls, the game will feature a new World Tour career mode that measures success on the court and fame off of it, as well as branching career paths. Sega is also including a new online mode split into competitive and casual play, online tournaments, and "a more competitive matchmaking system."

For Virtua Tennis 4, Sega is having the game developed in Japan by the original Virtua Tennis team. The first Virtua Tennis was developed by Sega's HitMaker studio and launched on the Dreamcast in 2000. A HitMaker-developed sequel, Virtua Tennis 2K2, debuted on the system the following year. The two most recent major entries in the series--Virtua Tennis 3 and Virtua Tennis 2009--have been developed by Sumo Digital.
