Actor Viggo Mortensen has reacted to Amazon's The Lord of the Rings TV series, The Rings of Power, saying it'll be "fun to see," even if he wasn't sure what it is.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Mortensen was asked how he feels about the show, and Mortensen started off by wondering just what the show is, and if it's being made for Apple.
"What is that? The TV thing? It is with Apple, or something?" he said.
After being reminded that the show is being made for Amazon, Mortensen said he'll watch it, but wondered what source material is being used. We don't know the answer for sure, but the show is being made in partnership with Middle-earth Enterprises and the Tolkien estate, and it takes place in the Second Age, long before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
The show may actually have a big connection to Mortensen, who played Aragorn, because his ancestor Isildur is rumored to be a main character.
"Oh, that's cool!" he said about Isildur potentially showing up. "Yeah, it'll be fun to see."
Mortensen is just the latest star of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings series to react to Amazon's TV series. Before this, Samwise Gamgee actor Sean Astin said the trailer gave him chills. Elijah Wood, who played Frodo, said it's "very bizarre" that Amazon is calling it Lord of the Rings at all.
Amazon's series premieres September 2 on Prime Video; that's not long after HBO's Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, comes to HBO Max.
In other Lord of the Rings news, Astin's father, John Astin, revealed that he auditioned for the role of Gandalf.
