videogames.com Rewind-November 2024
Nov 24, 2024 10:48 PM

It's July, it's warm outside, and the weather so far has been great (at least in this part of the world, but if you live in Florida, well...). So what are you doing on the Web looking at video game news? Get out there and do something outside! Wait a second, continue reading this first, then go outside and enjoy the weekend. This week we had Dreamcast news as well as the first word on the sequel to Banjo-Kazooie, certainly of interest to those of you who finished the game on the Fourth of July weekend.

Here's what was making news in the video game industry this week:

So you're done with Banjo-Kazooie, eh? Or, at least, you think you are. Rare has announced that Banjo-Tooie will have more in common with Banjo-Kazooie than just being its sequel, so hold onto that cart until 1999.

Two pieces of Dreamcast news came out this week. One being that Microsoft's Windows CE logo will appear on the machine, and the other in the form of a new game by General Entertainment called Pen Pen Triathlon. Cartoony, yes. It's also a launch title for the machine and is being developed by a team that has some surprising names associated with it.

Square announced that a playable demo of its fighting game Ehrgeiz will be featured on the FFVIII demo disc that comes with Brave Fencer Musashiden (which will be released next week). You'll find screens and information on the PlayStation conversion here, which look surprisingly good and close to the arcade version.

We had two interviews with game developers this week. One with the team at Electronic Arts working on L.A.P.D. 2100 for the PlayStation, the other with the producer of Radical and Midway's PlayStation title, Jackie Chan's Stuntmaster.

New information and screens were posted this week on Psygnosis' Spice World (PS), Activision's Tenchu (PS), and Kemco's Shadowgate 64 (N64). Definitely worth a look if you missed them the first time around.

Finally, two minor stories that made news this week. The first concerned Capcom, which announced the rest of the titles in its five-volume Generations series. The other was about Sega's release of Atsumete Godzilla, a game that uses the Dreamcast VMS as its delivery system. So you can buy half your Dreamcast now and more later.

That's it for the week. Enjoy the weekend and check back with us next week. We'll have more Dreamcast stories early next week.
