This week it was Sonic, Sonic, and more Sonic. No other news quite had the impact that Sega's Dreamcast and the unveiling of Sonic Adventure did. So let's quickly jump into the news so the weekend can begin!

Sega's world premiere of Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast takes place Saturday afternoon in Tokyo, but throughout the week, Sonic Team hyped the event by releasing little teasers of information and screens each day. Perhaps the biggest news came on Tuesday when a French gaming site posted the first pictures of Sonic Adventure. They were promptly removed off this and other sites, but that's all in anticipation of Saturday.

New details on Acclaim's Turok 2 emerged this week when we traveled to Iguana to take a look at the title. In addition to looking great, we found out that it will utilize a 4MB RAM upgrade to make the game playable in hi-res mode. If you're a fan of Turok, you won't want to miss this story.

The other big headline this week was Namco's announcement of R4: Ridge Racer Type 4. This PlayStation racer is supposed to be more realistic than Sony's Gran Turismo, a feat that surely would be amazing.

On the business side of things, Electronic Arts announced its intention to buy Westwood Studios from Virgin Interactive Entertainment. How this will affect the future of Virgin isn't yet clear, but one thing's for sure: VIE's biggest asset is now part of EA.

989 Studios made a few announcements this week, which included the fate of the PlayStation title based on Xena: The Warrior Princess, a couple delays, and a couple new announcements regarding Xtreme 3D (a 3D version of its ESPN title) and NCAA Final Four.

One of the strangest bits of news this week was Nyko's announcement of a PlayStation TrackBall controller. Molded out of the same mold that Atari used for the original Atari 2600 TrackBall, this is sure to give retro fans a new way to control their favorite retro compilations.

Activision announced this week that it plans to release an updated version of Space Invaders for the PlayStation and PC. The company has licensed the series from Taito and will have exclusive distribution of the titles (excluding Japan).

That's it for this week. Stay tuned over the weekend for more updates on Sonic Adventure.
