Venom: Let There Be Carnage might have an extra cameo lurking on the set, as UK cinema chain Vue has included actor JK Simmons' name in the cast page for the upcoming sequel, as spotted by GamesRadar. Simmons played the editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle newspaper in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, and had a small cameo in 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home as a new incarnation of the character who's constantly demanding to see pictures of the web-slinger.
While it could be a simple mistake on Vue's part, there have been a few clues spotted in the marketing for Venom so far. The Daily Bugle newspaper was spotted in one of the trailers for the film, while Sony's other Spider-Man spin-off Morbius has a Far From Home Easter egg that might be a reference to the death of Mysterio. Venom 2 director Andy Serkis has deflected any Marvel multiversal theories, claiming that Venom 2 exists in its "own world" for now. There have been rumors that Simmons is reprising his role, once again, of Jameson for Venom 2, but there has been no confirmation of Jameson's return or Simmons' involvement with the upcoming film as of this writing.

Now Playing: Venom - Movie Trailer 2
On the Marvel Cinematic Universe side, that reality is about to get much bigger. Loki ended its first season with the formation of a multiverse, Doctor Strange and the Scarlet Witch will explore those alternate realities in a Sam Raimi-directed film, and the animated What If…? series kicked off with a look at a world where Peggy Carter got a super-soldier upgrade instead of Steve Rogers.
Beyond all that, Spider-Man: No Way Home has also begun teasing a trip into the multiverse, with former Spider-Men Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire rumored to be reprising their roles as their respective webheads.
That film has already confirmed that Alfred Molina is back as Doc Ock and Jamie Foxx is may be playing a shocking new incarnation of Electro. With all of that casting happening, a quick appearance of Simmons' J Jonah Jameson seems a bit more believable, and if there's one person who can get Spider-Man motivated enough to fight Venom, it's the one man who wields the power of print media.
Venom 2 has been slightly delayed from its original September release plans and will be out on October 15.
