[Updated] Reported by website Switchbrew and spotted by ResetEra user Atheerios, it appears that the new 5.0.0 firmware includes a System-on-a-chip (SoC) revision. This might imply that the current Switch units include a hardware vulnerability that would allow for exploits, including future Switch software versions.
New Nintendo Switch units will most likely be shipped with a different SoC.
[Original] Nintendo has made Nintendo Switch 5.0.0 update available for download now, and we’ve got the official release notes.
As covered yesterday, an update for the Parental Controls iOS app already suggested that the 5.0.0 update was inbound, and Nintendo has now deployed it for all Switch users.
The last update, the 4.1.0 update, dated from December of last year and many were hoping for major changes in the next firmware version, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
It appears that Nintendo fixed the issue that caused Play Activity to display incorrectly in the Profile section, major changes appear to be absent in this software version. Check out the release notes for yourself below:
