[Update] Producer Fernando Melo has confirmed that Mass Effect Andromeda uses a peer-to-peer (P2P) network for its multiplayer mode.

　　[Original story] Bioware has cancelled the Mass Effect Andromeda multiplayer beta that was announced last year.

　　The multiplayer tech test was scheduled to go live on Xbox One and PS4 somewhere last month, but has now officially cancelled the beta. The developer announced the news in a blog post that detailed the game’s presence at PAX East. While Andromeda’s multiplayer portion will be playable at the event, there won’t be a beta for players at home.

　　“While we will have live multiplayer at PAX East, there will no longer be a multiplayer tech test for players at home”, reads the official Bioware blog post. “Thank you to everyone who signed up. We look forward to seeing you in Andromeda.”

　　Following the announcement, Andromeda producer Fernando Melo took to Twitter to apologize for the beta’s cancellation, but stressed that it was the right decision since the game is so close to being released.

　　Melo pointed out that Andromeda has had the most extensive user testing the team has ever done. “MEA MP has had the most ext user testing we've ever done”, the producer followed up. “+GameChangers program. And retail console closed alpha earlier in new year.”

　　The game’s multiplayer mode is very much alive and kicking according to Melo, and more multiplayer info will be released shortly.

　　Mass Effect Andromeda will release later this month on March 21 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
