[Update] Free character transfers from the highest-populated Classic US and EU realms are now available.
"We have enabled free character moves for select realms to offer you a way to move your characters from the most high-population realms that have extended queues", Blizzard writes.
[Original story] Blizzard has announced that free WoW Classic character transfers will soon become available for select Classic realms.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve covered the severe queues on the highest populated realms due to extreme demand. Ahead of Classic’s release, Blizzard warned for hours-long queues and urged players to move to lower-populated realms. Classic was officially released last week and despite increasing server capacity, players are still experiencing long waiting times.
In a recent interview, the WoW Classic development team already talked about free character transfers being a possible option and Blizzard has now officially announced that free character moves are becoming available in the coming days.
“When free character moves become available from one of the most highly-populated realms, players will see the option to initialize a free character move on either the character select screen or the queue screen of the realm”, Blizzard writes.
Please note that a character won’t be able to move to a new server if this character is a guild leader, has mail or has active auctions or bids.
Blizzard already listed some of the realms that can be transferred from in the US and the EU realms are likely to be detailed soon as well:
