[UPDATE]Battlefield V Grand Operations Mode Available at Launch; EA Comments on Battle Royale Mode-October 2024
Oct 27, 2024 10:24 PM

  [UPDATE]

It looks like Grand Operations will indeed be available at launch, as the original blog post has now been updated with the following statement.

A previous version of this article stated that Battlefield V Grand Operations would be available shortly after launch, based on development plans as of June 9, the date the story published. The article has been updated to reflect that Grand Operations will be playable at launch and as part of Tides of War.

  [ORIGINAL STORY]

The hyped Battlefield V Grand Operations multiplayer mode won’t be available when the game launches this year, EA has confirmed.

“The ultimate multiplayer experience” as EA DICE has called the upgraded Battlefield 1 operations mode, will be made available shortly after the game’s launch. The news was confirmed through the game’s official website. “Shortly after launch, you will be able to take part in the first Grand Operation”, the post reads.

The ‘Grand Operations’ multiplayer mode is a modular experience that takes players across fictional in-operation “days,” where each day is represented by a round played on a map and mode that brings the narrative to life.

Actions are said to have a direct impact on the narrative and gameplay start of day two, which will impact day three, and so on.

At this point, EA hasn’t shared more details about the mode’s exact launch other than it will launch soon after Battlefront V’s release.

Another mode that won’t be directly available when the game launches is the new Battle-Royale mode, which will also be made available afterwards. Not much is known about this new BR mode, but EA did comment on the mode during the company’s most recent earnings call with investors.

“We're continuing to build and look to deliver innovative multiplayer components to that game”, EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, said when asked about the all-new mode for Battlefield V. “And as we come into October, we'll be talking more about this, but you should expect that we'll be delivering a full featured game that features all of the traditional components of a Battlefield game in addition to new modalities of play including Battle Royale and delivered in a way that we believe we want to play which is not just what you get at launch but in the context of a live service over time. And we're excited about what we're able to do there.”

When asked about a possible stand-alone Battle Royale version for Battlefield V, CFO Blake Jorgensen shared that the team might be open to experimenting with a free-to-play standalone game in the future, but that’s it’s not how the team is looking at the BR mode for Battlefield.

“I would say we're interested in possibly experimenting with a essentially free-to-play standalone game that might be in a shooter genre or another genre, but I don't think that's how we're looking at the Battlefield stuff right now. But you'll see more to come on that in the coming months and years.”

Battlefield V will release on October 19 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
