A major upcoming Windows 10 PC and Xbox One update has been made available for insiders which introduces a new design system called “Microsoft Fluent Design”.

Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of Xbox Platform Engineering, Mike Ybarra, shared the news through the official Xbox Wire. According to Ybarra, the update “is designed to make the Xbox gaming experience more fun, personalized, and social than ever.”

“We’ve heard feedback from our fans that they want the ability to customize Home the way they want. This new experience on Xbox One gives gamers more choice and delivers fun faster”, he wrote on the Xbox Wire. A video, providing a first look at the update, can be watched below:

One of the biggest changes is the introduction of Microsoft’s new design system for Xbox One and Windows 10 PC, entitled “Microsoft Fluent Design”, which updates the look, movement, and feel of the Xbox dashboard. Players will be able to fully customize their Home screen by creating or removing blocks of content that can be moved. Down below you’ll find some shots of the updated dashboard:

Furthermore, the update allows for faster switching between tabs in the Xbox guide, and the new layout makes it easier to switch between apps or get back to Home. Separate tabs have been created in the new Guide for Signing in, Achievements, Multiplayer, People, Home, Messages, Broadcasts, Captures, and a new Action Center.

The update also features a new Activity Feed in the community section which shows more content. According to Ybarra, reading comments is now much easier as feed items can now be displayed in detail at full-screen. On top of that, Game Hubs, Profiles, and Clubs have been refreshed to make them more dynamic.

Changes have been made to the Game Bar for Windows 10 users which make it possible to enable or disable Game Mode through a switch on the game bar. The bar also gives users more options for Mixer.

Currently available for Xbox insiders in the Alpha Ring only, the major design overhaul will be released to the public later this year.
