Upcoming Horror Game Alien: Isolation's VR Demo Was Only a Prototype-September 2024
Sep 23, 2024 5:21 AM

At this year's E3 conference, publisher Sega and developer Creative Assembly showed off their upcoming horror game, Alien: Isolation, running on the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. It was even playable, and several GameSpot editors got to experience hiding and avoiding the alien in virtual reality.

Unfortunately for VR fans, however, the developer has no plans to release this build to the public.

The official Alien: Isolation Twitter account responded to a fan's inquiry about a public Rift demo and put to rest any confusion about the potential for a Rift version of the game. "What we've got at the moment with Oculus is a prototype," the developer explained, "there's no full game in dev."

This, of course, does not mean that a Rift port won't ever be made. Considering that a full commercial release for the Rift is still quite some time away, Creative Assembly still has plenty of opportunities to decide to bring the game to VR.

Even without Rift support, though, the game looks terrifying, according to GameSpot's hands-on impressions. It launches on October 7 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Do you want to see VR ports of games like Alien: Isolation? Or would you rather see the VR space cleared for games built from the ground up for the Rift? Let us know in the comments!
