Sony's new Uncharted movie is in theaters now, and director Ruben Fleischer not only wants to make a sequel but also a Jak and Daxter film. He spoke about both pieces in an interview with GameSpot sister site CNET. Starting with the Jak and Daxter film, which hasn't been officially announced, Fleischer said it would be a "fun challenge" to make more of a "space opera" kind of film in a fantastical setting.
"I've always wanted to do more of a space opera type film. Jak and Daxter takes place in a different world, and it has certainly very different characters than our human form," he said. "So it would be a fun challenge, but similar to Uncharted what makes that game so special is the tone. And I think the buddy relationship is at the center of the game, so as long as you have the relationship and a great tone. While this incredible landscape isn't cinematic per se, you can really create a cool visual world with that."

Now Playing: 15 Things You Never Knew About Uncharted
Before this, Fleischer confirmed he had begun work on a Jak and Daxter film, though little is known in the way of specifics. Uncharted movie star Tom Holland said he would want to star in it.
As for the potential Uncharted movie sequel, Fleischer said it was no accident that the film ends with a tease that there might be more to the story.
"It was important to me that this movie ends for audiences with the suggestion Nate and Sully are going to be partnered on more adventures in the future. I didn't love them just flying off into the sunset," he said. "This movie's about these two guys coming together as a team, so I wanted to leave the audience with the feeling this isn't the last we'll see of these guys. But ultimately the audience will decide if they want to see more. That'll come down to how much they like the film and whether or not they want to go see a sequel."
As for whether or not he would want to be involved in a sequel, Flesicher said he "absolutely" would.
"I would be thrilled. As an avid fan of not only genre films, but also history, it was like a dream come true getting to shoot this movie. I was a history major in college, and I've always had a passion for all things antiquity. I can't tell you how excited I would be to get to make another one," he said.
Fleischer already has ideas for a potential Uncharted movie sequel, recently discussing how he would love to put Uncharted 4's epic car chase scene into a new Uncharted film.
Uncharted opened in the US today, February 18, and it's expected to be a box office hit. Whether or not it gets a sequel will likely come down to how it performs at the box office, among other factors. What we do know for sure is that Sony is keen to make more movies, recently establishing a division called PlayStation Productions that will handle all adaptations of its games for film and TV.
Here at GameSpot, our Uncharted review scored the movie a 7/10. Reviewer Phil Hornshaw said, "Uncharted is a lot of fun a lot of the time. It might not do much that the games haven't already, but fans will enjoy a new Uncharted tale that at least brings its own flashy, death-defying treasure hunt into the fold."
