Ultima Online goes mobile in Japan
Ultima Online goes mobile in Japan-April 2024
Apr 20, 2025 1:29 AM

Electronic Arts has contracted with a mobile media company named Dwango to run a cell phone version of Ultima Online in Japan. Although the interface of the game will be distinct from the PC version, the mobile version of Ultima Online made by Dwango is still based on the same concept, allowing players to freely roam around the world of Britannia. The game's program will be a mixture of Java applications and Web page interfaces--creating characters and shopping in towns will be done on a Web page interface, while journeying and fighting will be done in a Java application. Much like the PC version, the mobile version of Ultima Online will also allow users to have pets, houses, and shops. The game will be updated on a consistent basis as well.

Ultima Online for mobile phones is scheduled for release in early summer in Japan. Membership fee is 300 yen ($2.50) a month.
