Ubisoft Is Planning to Add Crossplay to All Its PvP Games; Future Titles to Feature Stronger Identity-December 2024
Dec 19, 2024 11:56 AM

Ubisoft players can look forward to being able to crossplay across platforms in the future, according to what CEO Yves Guillemot said during yesterday's FY2020 half-year earnings call.

Yes. Our goal is to put crossplay on all the games that -- all the PvP games that we have over time. So that's really well underway.

Frédérick Duguet, CFO at Ubisoft, added:

And while I say early to draw any conclusion. We believe it will contribute to continue increasing engagement, but it's too early to do a final conclusion. We've been very happy with a very strong growth of Brawlhalla again in Q2. That's what we can say at this stage.

Brawlhalla is one of two Ubisoft titles (the other being Just Dance with its World Dance Floor mode) currently featuring crossplay. It looks like we can expect the feature to be rolled out to all major franchises, though there's no timing yet.

Later in the earnings call, Yves Guillemot had to discuss how the company intends to avoid the issues caused by Ghost Recon Breakpoint. The first order of business will be to ensure each game is well-differentiated and comes with its own strong identity.

First of all, making sure that each breakthrough new formula, change in formula new brands are coming with a very highly optimized experience, and that our key goal that we're stating very clearly, loud and clear. And that's why we believe that these three games that are coming with a very strong promise, a strong element of differentiation will be very well delivered. And also, in general, what we said is that we'll spend more time and have an additional pillar in our quality approach into building differentiation elements to improve the marketability of our games. We've been improving game play in a very meaningful manner over the years. We have optimized live operation services, now we are adding a new pillar to make sure that all of our games will start out and we'll be able to come with very stronger elements of identity. And then we believe that it's going to be a key step change in going for a higher marketability and grow our audience to a higher level.

The three games mentioned by Guillemot are Gods & Monsters, Rainbow Six: Quarantine and Watch_Dogs: Legion. All of them were supposed to be released in the current fiscal year but were delayed in order to avoid the mistakes incurred by Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
