Ubisoft Is Happy for Red Dead Redemption 2’s Delay into 2018
Ubisoft Is Happy for Red Dead Redemption 2’s Delay into 2018-October 2024

The fans of Rockstars may be sad about the delay of Red Dead Redemption 2, however, there is one company that openly said to be happy to see the release of the game postponed until 2018: we refer to Ubisoft.

During its most recent earnings report, the chief financial officer (CFO) of Ubisoft Alain Martinez mentioned that changing the date of Red Dead Redemption 2 could help the games of the French company have a better sales performance.

"Clearly the fact that there is no Red Dead Redemption [2] is a positive for our fiscal year 2018," Martinez commented. "This is something that we had taken into our [financial] assumptions. So the absence of that game is, of course, giving us a better window for the launch of some of our games."

According to Ubisoft, fiscal sales of second-quarter are expected to grow by 34%, in part because of the launch of Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, the third season of For Honor's DLC and additional content for Rainbow Six Siege. The studio also plans to release Assassin's Creed: Origins and South Park: The Fractured But Whole later this year.

Martinez also commented that it is too early to know how it will affect the delay of Red Dead Redemption 2. He explained that the company will continue with the plans established so far, preferring not to rush any of its games to take advantage of the alleged advantage.

Last May, Take-Two president Strauss Zelnick mentioned that the launch window for Red Dead Redemption 2 is not that important, as players are always looking for an extraordinary experience regardless of the date.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will debut sometime in 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, while the strongest Ubisoft title due this year is Assassin's Creed: Origins, which will debut on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on October 27. The company expects it to sell more than Syndicate, but less than Unity.
