Twitch Announces New Australian Data Centre at PAX Aus
Twitch Announces New Australian Data Centre at PAX Aus-October 2024
Oct 24, 2024 8:17 AM

Over the weekend at PAX Aus, games streaming service Twitch announced its plans to further its presence in Australia, starting with the launch of a new data centre to boost quality of service for Twitch viewers in the country.

The news was revealed during the Twitch Town Hall hosted at PAX Aus, which was also live streamed. The company also announced its intention to invest "heavily in infrastructure to improve quality of service for both broadcasters and viewers," and looks to achieve this by working with local internet service providers.

Previously, Twitch had opened a data centre in Sydney to improve latency for broadcasters based in Australia; the newly launching data centre is aimed at helping improve the experience for Twitch viewers.

Earlier this year Twitch announced a new user milestone of 100 million unique viewers per month. The streaming service also recently launched as an app for the PS4, with PS3 and Vita support to come later this year.

Twitch was acquired by retailer giant Amazon for 1 billion in August last year, despite rumours that YouTube (a subsidiary of Google) had reached a deal to purchase the game-streaming service. Google went on to launch YouTube Gaming in August this year, a service focusing exclusively on gaming content.
