Nihon Falcom's Trails of Cold Steel IV will release in North America on October 27, 2020, on PS4, the company announced today. It will also come to Nintendo Switch and PC in 2021.
The Trails games are part of the Legend of Heroes series, a long run of RPG titles dating back to the '80s. Trails of Cold Steel focuses on high schoolers attending a prestigious military academy.
Trails of Cold Steel IV is the final game in the subseries of Cold Steel, with more Trails games still to come, Nihon Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo told GameSpot in an interview from December 2019.
"Trails of Cold Steel IV ended the Cold Steel sub-series. However, I revealed some time ago before this interview the full world map for this particular world. It turns out that the whole eastern half is pretty much still in shadows," Kondo said. "We've hinted at this in places in Trails of the Sky, and so going forward we're going to be exploring that area of the world and its mysteries. It will be different characters and a new story, but it will still be a Legend of Heroes game."
Trails of Cold Steel III first came to the West on PS4 in October 2019, PC in March, and will release for Nintendo Switch on June 30.
