　　Former Swedish Quake 4 Champion Quick, who's era of dominance within the game has not quite yet been seen since, sent a strong message for the rest of the players at the $15,000 DreamHack Winter Championship. He has won each of his first three games against Lars Navntoft "brescia" Henningsen, Soeren "sothis" Holm Pedersen, and Frazer "Fraze" Hockley, with a combined frag score of 86-28. Quick's aim is said to be "quite impressive" by former Evil Geniuses player Tim 'DaHanG' Fogarty.

　　"I feel as good as I can be right now", Quick said in an interview before his match against Hockley. "I've put in the hours, but I cant say I expect to win. I hope to at least play my best game and make it as far as possible."

　　The 23-year old Belarusian Yanushevsky, who has won 3 DreamHack Quake titles and has earned himself 7 top-3 finishes, easily won his opening three games including a clean-sweep stomping of Sweden's Michael 'madix' Hindersson with a combined points score of 62 to -2. Yanushevsky says he awaits the start of longtime rival Shane 'rapha' Hendrixson.

　　Fogarty's game against Germany's Marcel 'k1llsen' Paul was the closest game in the first half of Day 1, earning himself a crucial victory early on. Both Fogarty and Paul will play Yanushevsky for what will be the top spots in Group B.
