Oct 23, 2024 7:28 AM

Total War Warhammer benchmarks are in and if you have purchased the game and want to crank the latest title to its highest visual settings, then we are telling you right from the start that it is imperative that you invest in a powerful desktop CPU.

Total War Warhammer Benchmarks Show That Rendering Visually Taxing Models Requires You To Have Top-Notch PC Hardware

Before we proceed with the benchmarks, we want to thank PC Gamer for conducting these tests. We understand the amount of effort and time it takes to compile these benchmarks coupled with the amount of time it takes to compose an entire article detailing the sort of performance you’ll experience depending on what visual setting you enable, so if you want to check out the entire article, you can do so at will.

System Requirements

If you want to play the game, then make sure that you system features the following hardware or equivalent.

Test Bed

PC Gamer used the following configuration for carrying out the benchmarking tests:

CPU: Intel Core i7-5930K running at 4.2GHzCPU: Intel Core i5-4690K running at 3.9GHz (simulated)CPU: Intel Core i3-4360 running at 3.7GHz (simulated)Mobo: Gigabyte GA-X99-UD4RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 16GB DDR4-2666Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 2TBPSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 G2CPU cooler: Cooler Master Nepton 280LCase: Cooler Master CM Storm TrooperOS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bitDrivers: AMD Crimson 16.5.3, Nvidia 368.22 (386.16 for 1080)The tests were carried out at five settings:

Conclusions

The summary of these tests are that if you want to game at a steady 60FPS, then it might not be possible until and unless you have a really powerful CPU strapped in the socket. Even an i7-5930K overclocked at 4.2GHz came short at 1080p Ultra, but according to the source, a Skylake i7-6700K overclocked at 4.7GHz might just feature the processing power you need to render sufficient number of frames. Additionally, you can also wait for the DX12 patch, which is expected to improve frame rate by 50 percent of more.
