Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness Impressions
Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness Impressions-October 2024
Oct 19, 2024 4:20 AM

Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness was released on June 20 for the PlayStation 2, and today Eidos announced that the PC version of the game was also in stores. This latest Tomb Raider game features a darker tone and more-modern-looking environments than its predecessor, but it has similar gameplay that has Lara Croft making death-defying leaps, solving puzzles, and shooting enemies.

At a glance, the PC version of the game looks predictably better than the PS2 version, at least when you run it on a high-end PC, though the gameplay and content of the actual game seem to be identical. Likewise, the rather sluggish controls of the PS2 version have been brought over pretty much intact to the PC, though they're arguably more responsive using a keyboard than using the PS2's dual analog controls.

The PC version of the game features an instantaneous quick-save feature as well as a quick-load feature for use when you invariably miss a step and go tumbling to your doom. The PS2 version's somewhat lengthy loading times are shorter here, making some of the trial-and-error gameplay inherently less frustrating.

Based on what we've played thus far, though, Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness for the PC appears to be more or less the same as the PS2 version. So for more details, read our full review of the PS2 version, or stay tuned for our verdict on the PC version. Also check out our new screens of the game.
