Tom Holland has shared new details on his pitch for a James Bond movie, one that was ultimately rejected, but led to him being cast as Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie due out this month.
Holland told the LA Times that his pitch to Sony Pictures Chairman Tom Rothman was "really good," but it didn't have many other supporters inside Sony. His idea was for a James Bond origin story that isn't revealed to be a James Bond film until the very end.

Now Playing: 15 Things You Never Knew About Uncharted
"He was supposed to just be a kid who was graduating into the SAS and goes on a mission, which is obviously exciting and adventurous. At the end of the film, he would be recruited into MI:6 and given the status of double-O and the title of James Bond," he said. I thought it was really cool, but no one else, I guess, thought it was cool."
If the film didn't reveal itself to be a James Bond movie until the very end, that might have posed some issues with marketing, Holland said.
Holland previously said his pitch for a James Bond origin story made its way to the producers of the Bond series, but it didn't go further. "I don't think the Bond estate were particularly interested," he said.
Holland's Bond pitch wasn't a total loss, however, as the experience inspired Holland for his role in Uncharted. "The idea of a young Bond film sparked this idea, in turn, that you could do a Nathan Drake story as an origin story, rather than as an addition to the games," Holland said. "And that opened a conversation, and we started to discuss if I could play this role."
In 2021, Holland said he would "love" to play James Bond someday. "I'm just putting that out there. I look pretty good in a suit," he said.
2022 marks the 60th anniversary of the James Bond film series, and the producers of the series have told fans to "watch out for announcements, events, and new content across 2022." One such reveal might be GoldenEye 007 for Xbox, as the game's Achievements recently leaked. Outside of this, Hitman developer IO Interactive is making its own James Bond game, and we hope to learn more about it this year.
As for the film series, 2021's No Time To Die wrapped up Daniel Craig's run as the British superspy. Looking ahead, producer Barbara Broccoli has said the next person to play Bond will likely be a British man of any ethnicity or race.
