Respawn Entertainment's highly touted Xbox One system-seller Titanfall was not originally planned to launch on Microsoft's new console. Lead engineer Richard Baker revealed the surprising news in an interview with Eurogamer.

"Originally, we weren't planning on an Xbox One version of the game," Baker said. "I'm certain that having an Xbox One version has made our PC version much better--it justified the effort in moving to DX11 and even 64-bit."

Titanfall is now a core component of Microsoft's Xbox One strategy, marketing executive Yusuf Mehdi said this week. There are advertisements for the game all over TV and online, and Microsoft even created a special limited-run Titanfall bundle to mark the game's release.

Available today on Xbox One and PC, Titanfall comes to Xbox 360--courtesy of third-party studio Bluepoint Games--on March 25. Microsoft has promised that the Xbox 360 version of Titanfall will be a "first-class experience."
