Titanfall 2 Dev Opens Up To Cross-Play, Explains Why The Team Added Dialogue Options in Single Player-September 2024
Sep 22, 2024 7:44 AM

Titanfall 2 is aiming to do quite a few things differently than the previous franchise entry. For starters, it will launch on PlayStation 4 as well as Xbox One and PC, but Respawn Entertainment is also adding a full fledged single player campaign that's estimated to last about eight hours.

In a presentation at Gamescom 2016, the developers explained that the game won't just feature set pieces but also plenty of exploration and puzzle solving. Another rather peculiar new feature is the addition of dialogue options in Titanfall 2, which Game Director Steve Fukuda explained in an interview with Shacknews:

One thing we realized was that, in a buddy story or a love story (which a buddy story is, basically), it very rarely works when communication is one way. And the more we worked on the game, we discovered moments where we instinctively replied to the Titan when he asked us a question, like "Are you alright?" That's kind of where it started. "Hey, let's let the player talk to the Titan, just on a purely personal kind of dialogue level." Allow the player to pick the one attitude that matches what they're feeling at the time and lets them respond reflexively and intuitively with the Titan. I think that helps the bond and makes the Titan a more real character.

In the second part of that interview, Fukuda also left the door open to cross-play functionality in the future.

We aren't planning on doing that at launch. For now, the answer is no, but we aren't closed to the possibility.

With Psyonix just awaiting Sony's approval to activate cross-play functionality between all platforms (PC/PS4/XB1), more games like Titanfall 2 could follow suit.

Titanfall 2 will be out on October 28, 2016, one week after Battlefield 1 and one week before Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Are you planning to get it? Let us know in the comments.
