Titan Quest II Announced for PC and Consoles as an Open World Game Powered by UE5-October 2024

One of the highlights of THQ Nordic's 2023 Digital Showcase was undoubtedly the reveal of Titan Quest II. After paving the way to a sequel with the late Ragnarök expansion to the original, we would have thought THQ Nordic would select Pieces Interactive to work on the game. However, Pieces is busy with the new Alone in the Dark game, so Munich-based developer Grimlore Games has been enlisted for Titan Quest II instead. Grimlore released the real-time strategy-roleplaying game hybrid SpellForce III. After that game was launched, THQ Nordic started looking into assigning the top-down hack-and-slash sequel to Grimlore.

Titan Quest II is once again set in ancient Greece as it was depicted in Greek mythology. Unsurprisingly to those familiar with the topic, the story's core focus will be fate, who's involved in changing it, and what that means to the people. More specifically, Nemesis, Goddess of Retribution, is out of control. She is corrupting the Threads of Fate and is punishing all those who oppose her. Needless to say, it's up to the player to stop Nemesis.

The new installment will be powered by Unreal Engine 5 and features an open world structure with a lot of verticality that can be explored with a divine mount called Areion. There's also going to be a day and night cycle.

One of the changes compared to other hack-and-slash action RPGs like Diablo or Path of Exile will be a focus on more strategic combat. It'll still be fast-paced but less of a clickfest in comparison to allow players more leeway in tactical gameplay.

One of the first entry's main features was its ability to mix two classes. This feature will be expanded in Titan Quest II, allowing players to freely combine two masteries and look for synergies that can be exploited in search of the optimal playstyle.

It was also said that enemies can 'form factions and work together to combine their abilities and skills', though it is unclear how this feature will work in practice.

Titan Quest II will also support multiplayer for co-op and PvP, too, according to the fact sheet. The game will be released for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X on an unspecified date.
