THQ and Nickelodeon have entered into a multiyear agreement to develop original video games for multiple platforms. To date, the relationship between the two companies has involved THQ developing and publishing games based on existing Nickelodeon properties. Under this most recent agreement, the two companies will develop new video game properties based on original characters and storylines, which can then be cross-marketed to other mediums such as film, television, online, and consumer product franchises.
"While our main objective is to publish video games based on original, fun, and irreverent characters, the perfect property would transcend the world of video games into TV, movies, online, magazine, and consumer products,'' Albie Hecht, Nickelodeon's president of film and TV entertainment, said. "Nickelodeon will leverage the power of MTV Networks and Viacom to market and promote our original video games like no one else can. We look forward to working with THQ to bring these original multimedia franchises to life.''
"THQ has established itself as a top provider of game content on every game system,'' Jeff Lapin, vice chairman and COO of THQ, said. "Working with Nickelodeon to build original properties across media including television and film adds a very exciting dynamic to our business.''
Specific details regarding the games were not revealed. Both companies are presently evaluating game submissions.
