The World Ends with You: Final Remix Details Its New Pins, Motion Controls, and More-October 2024
Oct 22, 2024 2:05 AM

The World Ends with You: Final Remix is one of the more exciting (and unexpected) Nintendo Switch games coming out this year, but what, exactly, is being added to this latest remake of the cult RPG? Well, Square Enix has released some new info about the game’s new controls, music, and pins (thanks to Gematsu for the translation).

For those unfamiliar, you customize your moves and abilities in TWEWY with a variety of different pins (over 300 in total). Here’s a look at three all-new pins:

  2 of 9

  The Cruel Fortune-Teller

By holding and releasing Neku…swords will fly out all around him. This is also effective against long distance Noise.

  Yadokari Phaser (Hermit Crab Phaser)

By slashing Neku, he will freely run around the area, dealing damage to any Noise he bumps into. When he hits the edge of the screen, he bounces off.

  Hanayome Date

By tapping the air, a huge sphere will appear in the direction of your tap. It will drift about for a fixed period of time, and can induce and damage Noise.

In addition to the pins, you’ll now be able to control battles via classic touchscreen or new Joy-Con motion controls:

Enjoy touch command battles with intuitive controls that depend on various types of touches to the screen, such as taps and slashes. (When playing with Joy-Cons, a pointer will appear on the screen.) Work together with your partner to attack the enemy and increase your Sync rate. When your sync rate reaches 100 percent, you can use a Fusion special attack that heals Neku’s HP and deals major damage to enemies.

Finally, some information about the game’s soundtrack:

The World Ends with You: Final Remix has a total of 92 background songs, including new, arranged, and original songs. Players can change between original and arranged songs at any time during the game. New songs with different tastes that have yet to appear in The World Ends with You will make their debut in Final Remix, and arranged songs have a completely different atmosphere than their original counterpart.

  Songs included:

Twister, Twister (Final Remix), Twister Crossover (Live Version), Give Me All of Your Love, Hybrid (The Death March), Revelation, Satisfy, March On, Ooparts, Make or Break remix, Owarihajimari X-tended ver, Someday -Kingdom Mix, Calling   MMM:001/The World Ends with You, Deja vu -Sanctuary Mix, Game Over, Shibuya, DTM CrossoverJump), Over Yourself, It’s So Wonderful.

In addition to the stuff listed above, TWEWY: Final Remix will also include an all-new scenario. Originally released on the Nintendo DS, The World Ends with You features a unique timing-based combat system and a ton of mid-2000s ‘tude. Here’s a quick story synopsis.

The story begins as Neku Sakuraba, an unsociable 15-year-old boy, unexpectedly wakes up in the Shibuya shopping district of Tokyo, Japan. While trying to piece together his rude awakening, he receives a strange text message warning him that he will cease to exist unless he accomplishes a certain mission. Although he barely has time to grasp what is happening to him, he commences his assigned task in the mysterious streets of Shibuya.

The World Ends with You: Final Remix hits Nintendo Switch on September 27 in Japan. A specific Western release date has yet to be announced, but Square Enix has promised we’re getting the game this year.
