The Witcher Battle Arena, a game which marks the first time the series has ventured into the MOBA genre, was released on Thursday to iOS and Android devices.
Developed by Fuero Games, Battle Arena puts players in teams of three and tasks them with securing various zones on a game map by occupying them. Opponents can either be the in-game AI, or other combatants connected online.
Though it is free-to-play, series custodian CD Projekt RED insists that the game will not allow players to gain an advantage by paying for items. In a statement, the company said: "Featuring elements known from role-playing games and a fair, player-friendly monetization system, the game features no pay to win elements and allows every item and functionality to be unlocked entirely via gameplay."
As well as PvP and co-op, players can also test their skills in practice modes. Battle Arena launches with nine characters available--variants of warriors, mages and archers--and Fuero Games is said to be developing more for future updates.
A launch trailer can be seen above, and the video below demonstrates how characters move around locations, and attack others, by tapping and flicking touch-screens.
Two different arenas are available at launch, Nilfgaardian Arena and the Korath Desert.
Battle Arena’s release comes just several months ahead of The Witcher 3 release date, which was recently delayed to May 19.
