The Witcher Season 3 Trailer And Release Date Announced For Henry Cavill's Final Run-September 2024

The Witcher Season 3, the final season starring Henry Cavill in the lead role, will debut this summer, Netflix has announced. Season 3 premieres June 29. Part 2 of Season 3 follows four weeks later on July 27.

There will be eight episodes in total for Season 3 across the two "volumes," as Netflix calls them. Check out the new trailer below, which sets up some of the action and drama to come.

"When we wrote the season, we didn't have batching in mind," series creator and showrunner Lauren Hissrich said in a blog post. "That said, for any fans who are familiar with The Time of Contempt novel, there's an epic event that explodes the Continent as we know it--the lead-up to which provided a perfect cliff-hanger for us. We couldn't have planned it better."

Season 3 adapts the second book in author Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher series, Time of Contempt. "For years, Geralt has claimed neutrality, shunned politics and publicly asserted that witchers don't have emotions--all to make his life as a killer easier to navigate. We've seen him battle monsters and monstrous humans; we've watched as he's hardened himself in order to survive. This season, he can no longer do that," Hissrich said.

The Witcher also stars Freya Allan as Ciri and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer.

Netflix is recasting Geralt for Season 4, with Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth stepping in to play the role. It remains to be seen how the handoff will happen, or if the show will reference the major change.

A new poster for Season 3At the time, Cavill said, "...As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam's take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find."

In addition to the TV series, there are more Witcher games coming, including The Witcher 4, 5, and 6, as well as a remake of the original.
