The Witcher 3 New 8K Texture Packs Improve Geralt, Yennefer Looks
The Witcher 3 New 8K Texture Packs Improve Geralt, Yennefer Looks-October 2024
Oct 22, 2024 8:35 PM

Two new The Witcher 3 8K texture packs were shared online yesterday, further improving how two of the game's main characters look.

The new texture packs, both developed by Instanity, who released plenty of other 8K texture packs for other games, introduce high-quality 8K resolution textures for both Geralt and Yennefer, vastly improving their looks without altering them in any shape or form. You can download the two packs from Nexus Mods.

While The Witcher 3 is a relatively old game, CD Projekt Red breathed new life into the third entry in the series last year with the next-gen update, which introduced ray tracing support on current-generation consoles and PC and a selection of quality of life and gameplay improvements that make the experience more enjoyable. Since the release of the update, modders went back to work on the game, releasing plenty of mods that improve performance and visuals, like the HD Reworked Project NextGen Edition that is still in the works, and fix issues that haven't been addressed yet. CD Projekt Red also released a few patches to address a variety of issues but hasn't launched one in a few weeks, suggesting that development of the next-gen update is winding down.

The Witcher 3 is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch worldwide. You can learn more about the next-gen update by checking out Alessio's analysis.

The free The Witcher 3 Next-Gen update is finally here, at last, featuring a host of quality-of-life and gameplay improvements in addition to all the technical enhancements. On PC, players can enjoy a brand new Ultra+ graphics preset. Then, on top of that, they can enable four ray traced effects: global illumination, ambient occlusion, shadows and reflections, with the latter two unavailable on consoles.

With everything turned on, the game looks absolutely fantastic. Granted, it had a great base to begin with, but the textures are clearly higher quality here (partly thanks to the integrated mods), and the draw distance is massively improved, just like the accuracy and sharpness of reflections and shadows. The star of the show is the ray traced global illumination, though, which elevates the game's lighting to new heights.
