One of the characters who suffers a goofy death at the start of The Suicide Squad did not actually die, director James Gunn has revealed. Spoilers follow below.
Gunn held an online "watch party" for The Suicide Squad on Monday night, sharing his director's notes throughout the film and revealing neat behind-the-scenes details. One such detail is that Nathan Fillion's character, The Detachable Kid (TDK), did not actually die. People who paid close attention to a small detail might have already spotted this.

"Important to note if you look at the life signals in the Comms hub, TDK isn't dead," Gunn wrote.
Fillion responded to Gunn's tweet, saying he tried to call attention to this fact when he saw The Suicide Squad in a theater. "Apologies again, for the disturbance," he said.

I noticed that very loudly when I saw this in the theater. Apologies again, for the disturbance. #TSSWatchParty https://t.co/NcpmMGKIVe

At the beginning of The Suicide Squad, TDK separates his arms from his body and dispatches them into a firefight, using them to smack soldiers on the head. This does not go to plan, and TDK bites the dust, or so we are led to believe. He actually survives, though whether or not Gunn has more plans for TDK in any future Suicide Squad project remains to be seen.
