The Simpsons Predicts The Future Again With New Tom Hanks Promo
The Simpsons Predicts The Future Again With New Tom Hanks Promo-October 2024
Oct 31, 2024 9:22 AM

Actor Tom Hanks narrates a new video from President Biden's Presidential Inaugural Committee marking his first anniversary in office, making for yet another time The Simpsons has correctly predicted the future.

The video, which is intended to promote a recovering and resilient America, features Hanks--who was part of Biden's inaugural activities--in a role similar to the one he played in 2007's The Simpsons Movie. In the movie, the Environmental Protection Agency seals Springfield in a gigantic dome. Hanks, playing himself, makes a cameo as part of an ad for a new Grand Canyon, saying, "The US government has lost its credibility, so it's borrowing some of mine."

Memorably and fairly recently, The Simpsons also accurately--and improbably--predicted aspects of Season 8 of Game of Thrones. While it's reasonable for TV writers to guess where other TV series are heading, this is far from the only example of the show having prophetic qualities. Check out this list of 10 times The Simpsons have predicted the future to read even more examples from throughout the show's lengthy run, including Donald Trump becoming president, corruption scandals within FIFA, Greece's economic policies, and more.

In line with the series getting with the times, the show has undergone a bit of a casting shake-up over recent years, with white actors no longer voicing characters of color on the show. The latest cast change is Kevin Michael Richardson taking over the role of Dr. Julius Hibbert from Harry Shearer. Richardson debuted on the series back in February 2021. Hank Azaria previously stepped down from voicing Indian character Apu, though Fox has not yet announced new casting for the role. Another Azaria-voiced character, Carl, is now voiced by Alex Désert.
