This morning, Epic Games revealed that it has licensed its Unreal Tournament engine to Gold Creek Technology, which will use Epic's technology in developing a 3D role-playing game. Called Second Genesis, the RPG will borrow heavily from the adventure genre and take place in a sci-fi alien world.
"Second Genesis is a great project, and we're very excited to have Gold Creek as the latest licensee of the Unreal Tournament engine," said Epic VP Mark Rein. "As with our other licensees, we will be working closely with Gold Creek Technology and Alternate State Entertainment to maximize their use of the engine and help them tailor it to their gameplay needs."
Not much is currently known about Second Genesis just yet, but we do know that the game will be quest-based, and players will be able to choose from several character classes and travel across a number of areas. We'll keep a close eye on Second Genesis, and as soon as we learn more about the game, we'll let you know.
Currently, Second Genesis is expected to release toward the end of 2001.
