Sony’s PlayStation VR, dubbed as PS VR, is officially out. Some lucky gamers have already been able to test it but if you are someone who missed out on the pre-order, the platform has officially launched in the Americas and Canada and will be available in retailers. Amazon has already stated that they will have a limited quantity ready to ship. The PS VR headset has an MSRP of $399.99 USD while as the PS VR launch bundle has an MSRP of $499.99.
Reviews have been coming in for quite some time now and they are generally pretty positive. The customer reviews over at Amazon are also pretty positive and the rating currently stands at over 4/5 stars. We have also given a list of reviews below for readers to browse through and “see” for themselves what the fuss is all about (although this might be an exceedingly inaccurate statement considering the nature of the product).

While the PS VR will be compatible with all versions of the PS4, it goes without saying that because of the superior hardware of PS4 Pro, if you don’t already own one, you should wait till the 10th of November and get it along with the PS4 Pro. Considering the PS4 Pro itself will retail for around $399, this is still a pretty steep price to be paying for launch day content right now, which is pretty slim. A complete list of PS VR content (launch day as well as upcoming) can be found over here.
Here’s what you get on the demo disc:

This is not just a big announcement for the company, but all eyes in the VR industry are looking at PlayStation VR to lead the way towards mainstream VR acceptance. Although it costs almost twice as much as a PS4 Neo (at the very least) it is still much cheaper than the PC based VR alternatives out there - namely the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
The PlayStation VR is probably the first, truly mainstream, VR gaming platform that has been unleashed into the consumer market. HTC Vive and Oculus Rift both have had adoption rates that were less than the projected amount. If there is anything that can jump start the VR industry, it is the race between the two console makers and Sony PS VR looks like it’s off to a great start. While the platform will not be able to handle as high a visual fidelity as its PC counterparts, the presence of a mainstream platform will be a big incentive for developers to start generating VR content and get the ball rolling - not just for PS VR, but for the entire VR gaming industry.
