The rumored PlayStation 5 Slim model is apparently not going to be slim at all, as it will only feature different dimensions than the current model, which won't necessarily be smaller.
Speaking on Twitter, Tom Henderson, who revealed first the existence of an upcoming new PS5 model compatible with a detachable disc drive, revealed that this new console model may not be called Slim at all, coming with slightly different dimensions than the current model, judging from the prototypes. As such, Tom Henderson believes Sony will brand it as an improved model over the original. As previously revealed, it will also replace the current model eventually, as the final units will hit shelves by the end of the year.
I don't know anything about the recent PlayStation Slim rumors and when it will be revealed.
Logically, with a release set for September, a reveal soon makes sense. As for if it will be called the "Slim" or not, I'm inclined to believe it will just be called a PS5 and branded…

I've only seen prototypes. I don't think it will be "slim" at all. Just slightly different dimensions but we'll see

While we don't know how this new PlayStation 5 model will be branded and marketed, it seems certain at this point that it is indeed coming, as Tom Henderson said multiple times. Earlier this month, even Microsoft suggested in court documents that this new console model will release before the end of the year and for the price of the current Digital Edition, so an official reveal shouldn't be too far off in the future. The PlayStation 4 Slim was released only a week after its announcement, so we could be in for a late reveal as well.
