The Order 1886 developer Ready at Dawn has reportedly lost 1/3 of its staff following the recent Meta layoffs.
Since late last year, Meta (among many other major companies) has been laying off employees massively due to the recession. Earlier this week, it was announced that the Mark Zuckerberg-owned company laid off another 4.000 employees, including staff from game developers Downpour Interactive, and Ready at Dawn - the studio behind PS4 exclusive The Order 1886, God of War Origins, God of War: Chains of Olympus, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, Daxter's PSP version, and several VR titles. The studio was purchased by Oculus Studios, under Meta, back in 2020 with the goal to develop several VR titles.
Following the most recent layoffs at Meta, several former developers at Ready at Dawn have now taken to Twitter to talk about the layoffs.
"I don't tweet often about work stuff, but worth a shot", a former technical artist writes on Twitter. "I was affected by the Meta layoffs today (since they own Ready at Dawn), and was let go."
Another former designer also writes about being let go by Meta recently.
i have a thing lined up so i will be OK. many of my coworkers will not. if you see anyone from M*ta (and Ready at Dawn in particular) looking for positions, please signal boost them. every single one of them is a powerhouse.

Senior engine and graphics programmer at Ready at Dawn, Thomas Gabriel, writes that Ready at Dawn lost 1/3 of its employees as part of this week's layoffs, including its studio head. Gabriel likely refers to Ru Weerasuriya, who co-founded Ready at Dawn with Andrea Pessino.
Gabriel added that Ready at Dawn also lost numerous employees due to attrition over the past year. "Also lost some really great people just due to attrition", he wrote. "Think we're down almost half since when I started in August."
Sad for sure to see so many people losing their jobs. We can only hope that they find a new position on short notice.
Many remember Ready at Dawn for the visually spectacular The Order: 1886 on PlayStation 4.
"The action is intense, and the gameplay is solid", we wrote in our review in 2015. "The cover-based shooter that lies in the heart of The Order: 1886 does its job well enough. It does not advance the genre nor does it innovate in any particular respect. There are even times that the player can feel a little restricted and times that it would have been a lot better if gameplay adapted a bit more depending on the player’s actions. But it's alright, as The Order: 1886 was never meant to be an innovating action shooter, relying on its unique and genre-defining gameplay to entertain its audience. The team's vision was to deliver a captivating story, an engaging horror drama through the interactive medium of video games, and generate an emotional response to the player, making him or her part of the story through realistic cinema and a blend of solid gameplay. It should therefore be judged based on those merits."
