The Nintendo Switch is now officially the fastest selling home console ever in the United States of America. This was just confirmed in a press release where Nintendo announced to have sold 4.8 million units between March 3rd, 2017 and December 31st, 2017, surpassing its own previous record with the Nintendo Wii of more than 4 million units sold in the same timeframe.
Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO, said:
Fans across the country have experienced the joy of playing their favorite games at home or on the go. Now that many more people have received Nintendo Switch systems for the holidays, we look forward to bringing them fun new surprises in 2018 and beyond.
The press release also adds that over 60 percent of Nintendo Switch owners in the US have purchased Super Mario Odyssey, and over 55 percent own The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also has an attach rate of more than 50 percent and Splatoon 2 of more than 20 percent.
Nintendo further intends to accelerate momentum with games like Kirby Star Allies, Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2 and a new Yoshi game in 2018.
