Nintendo’s upcoming new console, currently named the Nintendo NX, will put the company “back in the race”, according to Ubisoft.
Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot said as much during the company’s most recent annual meeting. “Nintendo will be back in the race with the NX”, Guillemot stated. Although this is just a brief comment, the Ubisoft CEO has been sharing his enthusiasm for Nintendo’s new console quite some times over the past few months. Last week, Guillemot expressed that Ubisoft loves the console, and that its a fantastic machine.
Guillemot isn’t the only Ubisoft executive that has a weakness for the NX as Ubisoft’s EMEA executive director, Alain Corre, said that the NX will recapture a lot of lapsed Wii players.
“And they are addressing the family market in a very different way, their own way, which we appreciate. We have done a lot of products and successes with Nintendo in the past, and we believe that the NX will recapture a lot the lapsed Wii players. So we will see when they release it, but we are confident”, Corre told MCV earlier this year.
Following the disappointing Wii U sales, the success of the Nintendo NX is of great importance to Nintendo, and according to Nintendo President, Reggie Fils-Aimé, a lot of valuable lessons have been learned from the Wii U’s bad reception. “One of the things that we have to do better when we launch the NX—we have to do a better job communicating the positioning for the product”, he said. “We have to do a better job helping people to understand its uniqueness and what that means for the game playing experience. And we have to do a better job from a software planning standpoint to have that continuous beat of great new games that are motivating more and more people to pick up the hardware and more and more people to pick up the software.”
The Nintendo NX is currently slated for a release in March, and Nintendo has stated that more about the platform will be revealed this year. We will keep posted.
