The new Tomb Raider reboot movie has a date, and we'll have to wait nearly two years to see it on the big screen.
Warner Bros. and MGM announced today that the film is due out on March 16, 2018. As previously revealed, it will star Alicia Vikander, who won an Oscar for 2015's The Danish Girl. It will mark the first time Lara Croft is portrayed by someone other than Angelina Jolie in a film.
Rise of the Tomb RaiderNo further details on the movie have been shared, though we do know it will be directed by Roar Uthaug (The Wave) and written by Evan Daugherty (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Divergent).
A new Tomb Raider game has not yet been announced; given that Rise of the Tomb Raider was released in 2015, though, it's possible a sequel could launch around the time of the movie.
Warner debuting Tomb Raider on that date would suggest it's not when we'll see its new The Flash movie, which had been rumored to release then.
