The Last of Us Part II Remastered Lost Levels, Visuals, and Roguelike Mode Detailed Further-October 2024
Oct 19, 2024 1:42 PM

Last week The Last of Us Part II Remastered was revealed to the world, with Sony and Naughty Dog promising new visual modes, cut levels, the new “No Return” roguelike mode, and more. Now, courtesy of a new TLOU2 Remastered website, we have a bit more detail on some of these features.

First, on those restored “lost levels” – per The Last of Us Part II Remastered website, they’ll be named Sewers, Jackson Party, and Boar Hunt. We don’t know exactly what these levels will entail or where they’ll place in the overall narrative, but we can make some educated guesses. Jackson Party likely expands the moment early in the game where Ellie and Dina make their first romantic connection – likely you’ll be able to explore a festive Jackson a bit more. The Sewers seem like they would make sense somewhere around the Hospital section in Ellie’s campaign. As for the Boar Hunt, you’ve got me. Maybe a flashback?

Here's a bit more information on the No Return roguelike mode, including confirmation of gameplay modifiers, some of the playable characters, and more.

“In No Return, unique gameplay modifiers can offer new and unexpected challenges as you fight to succeed – and survive – in a host of different encounter types. Play as a variety of characters including never-before-playable characters like Dina, Jesse, Lev, Tommy and more, each with unique traits to offer different playstyles, and unlock skins for them as you progress to use in the mode.”

On the visual front, we know we’ll be getting a 4K Fidelity Mode, a 1440p Performance Mode, and unlocked framerates if you happen to have a VRR-capable screen, but here’s a bit more nitty-gritty detail on how the visuals are being prettied up…

“This version features increased texture resolution, increased Level-of-Detail distances, improved shadow quality, animation sampling rate, and more. The Last of Us Part II Remastered also makes full use of the DualSense wireless controller's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers to allow every weapon to feel distinct and convey an increased sense of presence in your surroundings.”

The Last of Us Part II Remastered launches on PS5 on January 19, 2024.
