The Last of Us Part II Remastered is in the Works According to a Naughty Dog Employee-October 2024
Oct 27, 2024 10:19 AM

The Last of Us Part II is still one of the most visually-impressive games ever released, and yet, oddly, despite releasing only months before the launch of the PS5, the game has never been properly updated for Sony’s latest console. Or ported to PC, for that matter. No, The Last of Us Part II remains stranded on creaky old PS4 hardware to this day.

Well, thankfully, that may be about to change. According to the LinkedIn page of Naughty Dog’s lead outsource artist Mark Pajarillo, he’s been overseeing the production of new assets for The Last of Us Part I and… “The Last of Us 2: Remastered.” He doesn’t format the title right, but ultimately, I think the meaning and message are pretty clear.

The Last of Us Part II was a rather divisive game – one I had my own problems with narratively. That said, Naughty Dog’s work still deserves to be seen in the best light on capable hardware. Of course, the very successful The Last of Us HBO series will also be moving on and adapting TLOU Part II, so much like they did with the Part I remake, Sony is going to want to get the game on PS5 and PC so current audiences can appreciate it.

Another thing to take into account is that Naughty Dog’s ambitious The Last of Us multiplayer project is said to be “on ice,” and thus there’s likely a need for a project to keep people busy while they gear up for their next original game.

“At least 25 [Naughty Dog] contract workers were cut by the studio last week, mostly in the quality assurance department (though art and production teams were also reportedly affected in some capacity). The report also says the affected employees received pressure not to disclose the news. They won't get any severance, either. Their contracts expire at the end of this month, and they are expected to keep working until then. […] The layoffs may be related to the struggling development of the standalone The Last of Us multiplayer game.”

What do you think? Interested in revisiting The Last of Us Part II or was one time through enough for you?
