The Duviri Paradox Adds a Roguelite Open World to Warframe Today
The Duviri Paradox Adds a Roguelite Open World to Warframe Today-September 2024
Sep 22, 2024 8:24 PM

Digital Extremes announced the release of The Duviri Paradox, the latest free open world expansion to Warframe, on all platforms (PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, and Nintendo Switch) today.

Unlike previous open world expansions like Plans of Eidolon, Fortuna, and Heart of Deimos, The Duviri Paradox has a core roguelite twist strictly linked to its narrative. The fractured planet of Duviri is constantly shifting due to the varying moods of its child ruler, Dominus Thrax, whose spirals include Fear, Anger, Joy, Envy, and Sorrow. Each of these moods has been designed to provide a different experience in combat, interactions, environments, and even enemy behavior. The world of Duviri is also filled with side activities, including playing a board game with NPCs.

There are actually three modes available to players in this expansion. Beyond the regular Duviri Experience, The Circuit adds an endless game mode, while the Lone Story is a solo narrative experience. For the first time in Warframe, new players will have the option to immediately access The Duviri Paradox rather than having to go through the whole main path of the base game and subsequent updates, making the expansion far more accessible to any newcomers.

Digital Extremes is also adding several Supporter Packs and cosmetic bundles, as described below.

Royal Steed Pack - includes the Grassland Steed Pack, Outland Steed Pack, and Steed’s Regalia PackFabled Warrior Pack - includes a new Drifter Loneryder Suit, a selection of Armor, and other cosmeticsHeavy Strike Melee Bundle - includes a devastating Azothane and the shockwave-inducing Syam, Edun, and Sampotes melee weaponsBaruuk Doan and Wisp Somnium Collections - a visual overhaul of popular Warframes with new Deluxe Skins originally conceptualized by Warframe community fan artistsVoid Adornment Bundle IV - a new collection of morphic material with new Voidshell Skins for Limbo and MesaParadox Visage Ink Collection - further customize your Drifter with tattoosTennoGen Bundles - a new collection of community-designed customizations are releasing in the TennoGen LXX and LXXI Bundles today, including new weapon and armor cosmetics

In a Q&A with the press that Wccftech was invited to, Creative Director Rebecca Ford shared some additional tidbits of info. The developers are planning to add more Decrees to The Duviri Paradox with future updates, though the expansion already comes with 40. Ford also confirmed that while a new Warframe isn't shipping with today's launch, it is already being prepared for a future update, albeit not the first one scheduled after Duviri as that's already feature-locked.

For now, the roguelite mechanics are staying in this part of the game as they really fit what the team is trying to achieve here. However, some features and improvements added to The Duviri Paradox will be applied to other landscapes, such as horses. The lighting and skybox upgrades will also be transferred to the full game, and the hair shader reportedly received substantial improvements. Beards customization is also a thing now in Warframe.

As this is a live service game, The Duviri Paradox is just another step in a seemingly neverending journey, and Digital Extremes invites Warframe fans to check in once again for the official Devstream (#170) due to air on Twitch this Friday (April 28th). Rebecca Ford will be joined by Megan Everett, Kary Black, Erich Preston, and Pablo Alonso to talk about The Duviri Paradox and what's next for the game.
