Ubisoft's The Division launched two days ago, but the game has already sold more copies in its first 24 hours than any game in Ubisoft’s history.
Publisher Ubisoft announced this via their Ubiblog overnight. According to the publisher, the game also set a new digital full-game sales record across Xbox One, PC, and PS4.
“The launch of The Division is a tremendous achievement for Ubisoft, and demonstrates our unrivaled capacity to create fantastic new game brands and transform them into entertainment blockbusters,” said Yves Guillemot, co-founder and CEO, Ubisoft. “This is a momentous day for Ubisoft, but more importantly, it marks the start of millions of players’ enduring engagement in The Division’s game world, which we are confident they will love.”
The open-world RPG from Ubisoft Massive, was officially announced back in 2013 during that year's E3. The game is set in New York 3 weeks after a lethal virus, released on Black Friday, swept through the city.
One by one, basic services have failed. Society has collapsed into chaos. The President invokes Presidential Directive 51, and The Division, a top-secret unit of self-supporting tactical agents, is activated. Leading seemingly ordinary lives among us, Division agents are trained to operate independently of command in this type of emergency situation. When the lights go out, their mission begins.
“Our goal with Tom Clancy’s The Division is nothing short of completely changing the way people play online RPGs,” said Fredrik Rundqvist, executive producer, Ubisoft. “With the power of next-gen consoles behind it, The Division puts players in the middle of breathtaking, persistent multiplayer thriller in which they will explore, fight and work together as modern society collapses around you, all with the authenticity for which Tom Clancy games are renowned.”
The Division is available for Xbox One, PC, and PS4 right now.
