The first trailer for The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It has been released. The latest movie in the hugely successful horror franchise hits theaters and HBO Max on July 4.

　　The new Conjuring movie sees the return of Ed and Lorraine Warren, the paranormal investigators played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. The film focuses on the real-life case of David Gretzel, an 11-year-old who the Warrens performed an exorcism on in 1981. Five months later, the boyfriend of David's sister murdered his landlord, and the defence at his trial attempted to argue that he was possessed by the same demon, which had moved hosts after leaving David. The trailer suggests that while the film is using the real-life case as its basis, it will be a full-blown supernatural horror movie with all the possession, jump-scares, and tie-ins to the wider Conjuring universe that you'd expect. 　　The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It also stars Julian Hilliard (The Haunting of Hill House) as David Gretzel, plus Sarah Catherine Hook (Monsterland), Charlene Amoia (Birds of Prey), and Paul Wilson (The Right Stuff). It's directed by Michael Chaves, who previously helmed 2019's Conjuring spin-off The Curse of La Llorona. Franchise creator James Wan executively produces this time round.

　　The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It was originally set for release in September 2020, but like most big movies last year, was pushed forward to 2021. As with all of Warner's movies this year, it will also be available on HBO Max for a month from the day it hits theaters. It's currently the only Conjuring universe movie with a confirmed release date, although there are other films in the works. These include The Crooked Man and a sequel to The Nun.

　　In related news, Wan's new horror movie, Malignant, hits theaters and HBO Max in September. We're yet to see a trailer and the plot is still underwraps, but some brief footage of star Annabelle Wallis was revealed in January.
