The Callisto Protocol Update Adds Dismemberment Mode and the Ability to Skip Cutscenes
The Callisto Protocol Update Adds Dismemberment Mode and the Ability to Skip Cutscenes-October 2024
Oct 30, 2024 11:18 AM

The Callisto Protocol stumbled out of the gate when it launched late last year, but developer Striking Distance has been improving the game with a series of updates, and today we got another one. It seems it finally dawned on the makers of The Callisto Protocol that slicing off limbs was one of the most satisfying parts of Dead Space, so now they’re rolling out the new Dismemberment Mode that makes it easier to do just that to your heart’s content. The ability to skip cutscenes has also been added.

Here are the new features included in The Callisto Protocol ver. 5.01:

  Dismemberment Mode

Take your enemies apart limb by limb and experience the thrill of instantly dismembering your foesPlayers cannot earn campaign achievements or trophies while playing Dismemberment ModeGlobal Features

Added functionality allowing players to skip cutscenesThe fact that it took this long for Striking Distance to realize they should probably lean into dismemberment is somewhat telling, but at least they’ve figured it out now. Striking Distance hasn’t provided detailed patch notes for The Callisto Protocol ver. 5.01, but it’s quite a meaty update, weighing in at 13 to 15 GB, so presumably it includes other fixes and changes.

Haven’t been keeping up with The Callisto Protocol? The game has released a New Game+ and its first major DLC pack, the “Contagion Bundle” over the past few months. At launch, Wccftech’s Kai Powell found the game to be visually impressive and scary, but ultimately somewhat shallow…

“While an incredible looker, The Callisto Protocol suffers from a lack of intriguing content that makes the twelve-plus hour journey through Black Iron Prison feel worthwhile. The horror elements stand out as reason alone to play Striking Distance's debut horror game, but you might want to find yourself getting thrown back into Black Iron Prison rather than see the journey through to the end.”

The Callisto Protocol can be played on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5. Anybody out there continued to play the game as Striking Distance has updated it? Do you feel it’s improved?
