The Black Phone Calling Back For Sequel In 2025-October 2024

Universal and Blumhouse will be back for a second callback with a sequel to the 2021 sleeper horror hit The Black Phone. Variety is reporting that both companies are counting on this being the "launch of a sinister new franchise." The sequel is set to premiere in June 2025.

The Black Phone starred Ethan Hawke as a child killer called the Grabber, and Mason Thames, a 13-year-old boy named Finney who becomes the Grabber's latest victim. The Grabber locks Finney in a soundproof basement, where he's helpless until a disconnected telephone begins ringing.

When Finney answers it, he finds out he's able to talk to the spirits of the Grabber's murder victims. The ghosts teach Finney how to survive and fight back, so he can escape the Grabber and get home again.

Doctor Strange and Sinister's Scott Derrickson directed and co-wrote the feature and produced it along with Jason Blum for Blumhouse and C. Robert Cargill. The cast included Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, E. Roger Mitchell, Troy Rudeseal, James Ransone, and Miguel Cazarez Mora.

The movie made more than $160 million worldwide and garnered mostly positive reviews. It won best in horror awards from both the Hollywood Critics Association and the Saturn Awards.

There is no casting or plot information available yet for the production outside of the premiere date.
